This is the second edition of the Compendium CD. The first edition covered 1999 to 2003. The new edition retains these original papers, but also adds fire investigation and forensic papers of archival interest that were published in Interflam 2004, and in the 2005 and 2007 Fire & Materials conferences.

The Interflam series of fire conferences are considered to be the premiere international conferences where results are presented from the fire safety science field that have practical and direct impact on real-world fire problems. During the last three of the Interflam conferences—1999, 2001, and 2004—a special effort was made to bring to the program a sizable number of papers of special interest for fire investigators, forensic engineers, and forensic scientists. The Interflam conferences are held in the United Kingdom.

The same Interscience Communications organization presents the Fire & Materials conferences in the United States. Similarly, in the last four of these conferences—2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007—numerous papers were presented on fire investigation and forensic fire science topics.

To make these unique contributions available to a wider audience, this book collects the papers on special fire investigation interest from these 7 conferences. As workers in the fire investigation-related field know, scientific research material has been highly scattered and not easily accessible to the user. By presenting in one book some 83 research papers covering a wide spread of topics in the forensic fire science area, it is hoped that a valuable new resource will be made available to fire investigators and to forensic scientists
